Abracadabra Gigesa, Ethiopia


   Today I have a super tasty bean from Abracadabra Coffee Co. I typically paraphrase roasters stories on their 'About Us' sections, but Abracadabra's is just too good not to hear it right from them. "GIVE A DAMN"  About everything. Always. Seriously. Not just about the music and art you like or the magic you’re into. These obviously matter, but also in your direct and indirect relationships and interactions with other human beings. Yep, these are beans roasted by some weirdos in Vermont who give a damn every damn day. We support the farmers that grow the best coffee in the world, roast that coffee with insane attention to detail, and package it in biodegradable and recyclable material. So drink that liquid magic and continue on your day, givin' a damn about the whole damn world." Good stuff. 

   This is their Gigesa, Ethiopia. A washed bean from the Gigesa Washing Station. I brewed this at my 1:12 ratio. Abracadabra notes flavors of Honey Suckle, Tangerine, & Cane Sugar. This was a very floral bean, jasmine & honeysuckle. Loved the smell as a ground this in my Hario Hand Grinder. Apricots, tropical fruits, caramel. Nice & sweet, slight lemon acidity. This bean was an amazing cold brew. One of my recent favorites.

Tony’s Chocolonely Milk Chocolate

   I know I haven't done any chocolate bars for you guys in quite some time, but they don't come through my mailbox as often as the coffee (bummer, I know). But recently I reached out to Tony's (after seeing them in my local World Market store) and they have been kind enough to supply me with some of their bars for me to share with everyone.    In 2005 Dutch investigative reporter Teun (Tony) van de Keuken launched an investigation about the use of slavery within the cocoa industry on his consumer report show Keuringsdienst van Waarde. He was literally shocked to discover that most of the chocolate on supermarket shelves was harvested by slaves—worse, by child slaves. He decided to do something about it.
