Allegro Organic Italian Roast



   Here is another bean I get to showcase from the people over at Allegro Coffee out of Colorado. Allegro feels great coffee isn’t about overwhelming our palate, it’s about giving our senses a rebirth. Allegro's coffees capture a taste and tradition that permeate every step of the journey from seed to cup. Since 1977, when they established themselves as one of Colorado’s first specialty coffee producers, Allegro Coffee has continued to perfect the time-honored, artisanal traditions that make their coffee the most flavorful we can find. They want every cup of Allegro coffee to be close-our-eyes good. 

   This is their Organic Italian Roast blend. Beans from stellar Rainforest Alliance Certified farms in the Americas are roasted to intense darkness in this blend. I did a kyoto cold brew of this, but the darker beans just aren't my favorite in that brewing style, so I opted to brew this mainly as a pourover. I use a 1:16 ratio when I do my pourovers. Allegro notes this to be a velvety, rich, and bittersweet bean. That is definitely the case. Nice roastiness. Dark chocolate & nutty. Very smooth cup of hot coffee. Bet this makes for a tasty espresso. Another great bean from Allegro coffee.

Tony’s Chocolonely Milk Chocolate

   I know I haven't done any chocolate bars for you guys in quite some time, but they don't come through my mailbox as often as the coffee (bummer, I know). But recently I reached out to Tony's (after seeing them in my local World Market store) and they have been kind enough to supply me with some of their bars for me to share with everyone.    In 2005 Dutch investigative reporter Teun (Tony) van de Keuken launched an investigation about the use of slavery within the cocoa industry on his consumer report show Keuringsdienst van Waarde. He was literally shocked to discover that most of the chocolate on supermarket shelves was harvested by slaves—worse, by child slaves. He decided to do something about it.
